• What is Lonesome Trails ? This is our endeavor to gather local hikers together for day hikes in the Owens Valley here on the east side of the Sierra Mountains. Most of the trails are not cataloged in guide books and as such, I am providing links to maps and descriptions. These are low level hikes situated between 4,000' and 9,000' and will be suitable for hiking three seasons of the year:  Fall, Winter, Spring.
  • Mailing List:  If you think you might want to join us on any of these obscure hikes, place yourself on our mailing list and we will notify you when a hike is scheduled.
  • Hiking Difficulty Levels:

1. "Easy" -  Undemanding terrain with less then 1,000' of elevation gain.  Suitable for anyone with moderate fitness. Uses established trails and dirt roads.

2. "Moderate" -  Hilly terrain with up to  2,000' of elevation gain.  Suitable for experienced hikers with good fitness.  Uses established trails, dirt roads, and possibly some cross country terrain.

3. "Hard" -  Mountainous terrain with 2,000' to 4,000' of elevation gain. Suitable for experienced hikers with excellent fitness, endurance, and cross country experience. The terrain can be quite difficult.  If you are unsure about your abilities for these harder hikes, feel free to communicate with whoever is organizing the hike.

  • Dogs ?   In most cases, well behaved dogs are permitted on the hikes.  Owners must always carry a leash and put them on when circumstances indicate that you should do so.   The organizer of a hike always has the choice to not allow dogs on any given hike.
